What to do in a struggling relationship

One of the great things we experience in our lifetimes is the relationships we have.  From experiencing family relationships to love relationships it is wonderful.  But sometimes a great relationship can turn sour. What was once considered something of great joy and happiness is now a source of pain and heartache.

I have seen this first hand helping people in couples therapy in San Diego. Wat had once been a very promising relationship is now a battleground.  What was once looking like a bright future now is so bleak.  What happened and what can be done to change it?

That is a huge question and one that will be difficult to answer. Most relationships that have problems are going to be different.  But my experience doing marriage counseling San Diego has shown me there are methods you can use to bring out good solutions.

One of the things that is helpful to them is by giving them a safe place to talk.In general when you try and fix the fighting in your own home for some reason it doesn’t work.By proving a safe environment for them they are able to feel comfortable and safe which allows them work things out easier.

Another benefit for the couple is that extra person will be another ear to hear them out.But not just any old ear but an ear that will listen and be impartial.  An ear that will listen to the issues and address them impartially.Accomplishing that can work miracles.  That third person can address the issues apart from a heated argument.  When a couple tries to do it in the heat of battle it just doesn’t work.

Another thing that the couple can be helped with is by teaching them how to listen to each other.  In my practice as a marriage counselor in San Diego, I help them develop these skills.  These skills help them hear each other out rather than always trying to win the point.

By doing this, they are able to really address the issues. Doing these few things in a rocky relationship can work wonders.I have seen it in action countless times as a marriage counselor.

Emotional Issues of Today

One of the special things we get to experience as human beings are emotions. Emotions are very powerful parts of being human.Emotions that we experience like joy, love, anger or even pain. are very strong feelings we experience.  But often times it is because we are so emotional we can get into trouble.

I would like to talk about two very powerful emotions that in a few situations, require professional attention. They are depression and anger. Two emotions that are seemingly different are emotions that can cause major problems.  I have seen it first hand as a therapist San Diego.

I say it can lead to major problems because they both can lead to violence. In the problems like anger, it sometimes causes violence to erupt against others.  In the case of depression it can lead to cases of violence against one’s self.

When you are referring to things like anger, it is a very emotionally charged situation.  As mentioned earlier, it is an emotion you need to control.  Because as we well know a lot of people do bad things when they are angry. It does not necessarily need to be physical, it also can come in the form of emotions.  If that is the case you need to address it through anger management counseling.

Now in regards to depression, this is a dangerous problem as well.  It is dangerous because often times you may never now about it.  I mean you might not know if a loved one is experiencing depression.  When that happens, terrible things happen that weren’t expected.Problems like suicide.  I have seen it happen to often doing depression counseling.

If you know you are going through some depression, make sure you treat it quickly.Because before you realize it, it might have already gone too far.  Your loved ones may not even notice.  When that happens it can be too late.So find help quickly. It can be fixed.

As you can tell, emotions are usually good. But they are known to also cause problems.  By learning to deal with the problem emotions can be helpful. It matters not how you take care of it, either you or somebody else addresses it, but be sure to take care of it.

Surviving Depression

Depression is one of the strongest human emotions. If you leave this emotion untreated, those suffering from it severly could be lead to something more serious.

Everyone has moments of feeling unhappy.  That is natural. But clinical depression is something much more than that.  It is a disease.  But it is treatable.

I would like to offer some advice and tips that I have gained from my experience as a therapist in San Diego.

So what makes depression, clinical depression?

First off, a person can feel hopelessly sad. When a person feels as if there is no point to anything.  Or life is not worth living. Which might lead to suicidal thoughts and feelings.

This can last for 2 weeks or more. When the depression starts to last that long, then you are moving into a state of clinical depression.

And when you get to that point, you need to see a counselor.Don’t leave this condition untreated if you find yourself at that point.Take my word for it, I have learned this from my experience in depression counseling.

So once you do hit that point, you need to do several things. Because sometimes imbalances in your body or chemistry in your brain can cause depression, you may need to treat it medically.  You would treat it with antidepressant drugs.

Of course as a counselor, I prefer to treat it through depression counseling.A counselor helps a person start to get to the root of their depression and come to grips with it.

They can use another form of therapy such as cognitive behavior therapy which addresses how you think. The goal is to turn those negative thoughts into positive ones by questioning them.

A counselor is also good in helping you use relaxation techniques. If the depression is stress related, a good way to fight stress is relaxation.

Most of all a depression counselor will be the most effective person to find out what is causing the depression.

They are good at looking and seeing if a circumstance like a loss in the family is the cause. They can investigate and determine if it is caused by something from the past.  Or they can find out if it is caused by something going on in your body.  Whether it is some physiological change.

Depression is a treatable condition.  But without knowing the cause, you can’t treat it.This where finding someone that is a good counselor or therapist will help tremendously.
